Abstract

Chronic renal disease is associated with a decrease in fertility rate, with the causal factors correlated with impairment of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. The therapeutic strategies for infertility associated with chronic renal disease are limited, although medication intended for autoimmune-triggered kidney diseases, hemodialysis, or kidney transplantation were all tested. Considering the increase in the average maternal age, a surge in assisted reproductive techniques has been revealed in recent years, which also affected cases involving chronic kidney disease. In vitro fertilization management requires a multidisciplinary approach, including obstetrics, reproductive medicine, and nephrology teams. The article's purpose is to review the data from specialty literature regarding the correlation between renal function and the outcome of pregnancies obtained by in vitro fertilization.
